Chill
out with Nathan as group blows into 3rd & Lindsley
Canadian
troupe Nathan took a boyish name, sure, but its sound is a tad more ladylike:
The band's recent Jimson Weed album brings graceful Americana moods, fronted
by the delicate vocals of principal songwriter Keri McTighe.
At
its most pop, Nathan smacks of young, Texan, Britrock-melody fiends Eisley.
At its most banjo-fied, the group is reminiscent of old-timey bluegrass
infused with a Saskatchewan chill and updated with honeyed harmonies that
could've come from slowcore heroes Low.
McTighe's
voice has that same pixie-gorgeous quality that made The Sundays' Harriet
Wheeler so irresistible, and her instrumental backing echoes like the accompaniment
on Neko Case's Blacklisted. Fine bedfellows, all.
Nathan's
performance tonight at 3rd & Lindsley Bar & Grill will be extra
special, too — the show is being taped for XM Satellite Radio, so be prepared
to whoop it up. Time is 10 p.m., cover is $7.
